When we live with unresolved trauma, it can be difficult to function.
If you are experiencing intrusive memories (flashbacks, nightmares, or unwanted thoughts), are avoiding certain people or places, or are detaching from your feelings and struggling to connect with others due to emotional numbness, know that these are signs of unresolved trauma.
Experiencing these symptoms doesn’t mean you are weak or broken, but rather that you could benefit from working with a therapist who specializes in treating trauma and PTSD.
There are many physical and psychological symptoms that accompany PTSD or C-PTSD. If you’ve experienced a trauma, you may have noticed that you are having persistent negative thoughts about yourself and struggling with intense guilt, shame, irritability, or anger. You may be having trouble sleeping and struggling with memory loss or dissociation. Unexplained physical symptoms such as headaches, stomach aches, chronic pain, racing heart, or chest pain are also common. Hypervigilance or intense anxiety may also be signs that you have unresolved trauma to confront and process. Trauma-informed therapy can help you get back inside your body so you can feel in control and connect with your joy again. These debilitating symptoms don’t have to last forever.
